Figgy’s Fizz: a new Kent sparkling wine with a story of hope

A new sparkling wine has arrived in Kent, bringing together local grapes, family, farming and a deeply personal story.

Figgy’s Fizz is a premium single-estate, single-vineyard sparkling white wine from the newly established Figgis Family Vineyard, on the Mount Ephraim Estate near Faversham.

Created by Sean and Steph Figgis and their son Alistair, the wine is made in memory of their son and brother Christopher, affectionately known as “Figgy”, who took his own life in October 2022, aged 18.

Rather than allowing Chris’s story to end there, the family have transformed their grief into something positive. Figgy’s Fizz celebrates life, community and connection, while also encouraging more open conversations around mental health and suicide.

The family is also supporting The Listening Place, with Figgis Family Vineyard donating 50p from every bottle sold to the charity. The Listening Place provides free face-to-face support for people struggling with suicidal feelings.

Grown and made in Kent
Figgy’s Fizz is made exclusively from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in Figgy’s Field on the Mount Ephraim Estate.

Made using the Charmat method, the 12.5% ABV sparkling white wine is described as fresh, fruit-forward and wonderfully refreshing, with a light sparkle. It can be enjoyed well chilled as an aperitif or alongside light dishes.

The 2025 vintage has an RRP of £25, with 4,000 bottles available from September through selected fine food retailers across Kent and the Figgis Family Vineyard website.

The launch also marks an impressive achievement for the new vineyard. Sean successfully produced drinkable wine from vines that were just 18 months old, something rarely achieved in commercial winemaking.

Sean Figgis said:

“We’re incredibly proud to be launching Figgy’s Fizz this September. We’ve worked hard to create a premium English sparkling wine that reflects both the quality of the fruit grown here in Kent and the care that’s gone into every stage of the process.

“Being able to produce wine from such young vines has been an exciting achievement, and we’re looking forward to people finally tasting it.

“Figgy’s Fizz is far more than a sparkling wine to us. It’s a way for us to remember Chris – he loved farming and being outside – and to create something positive from an incredibly difficult time. We want people to enjoy the wine and share it with friends and family. If it helps even one person feel able to speak up or seek support, then we’ve achieved something truly worthwhile.”

Daniel Hall from the Listening Place added:

“We feel privileged that Sean and Steph have chosen to work with us. There is such a moving story behind Figgy’s Fizz and with this partnership we can help deliver a message of hope.”

Looking to the future
Figgy’s Fizz is just the beginning for Figgis Family Vineyard.

As the brand develops, Sean and Steph hope it will become a platform for raising awareness of suicide prevention and supporting charities working in the field. The vineyard itself was established because of Chris, and every bottle carries his legacy.

The grapes from Figgy’s Field will also be used to make sparkling wine available in 2027 in 40% cans and 60% bottles.

Meanwhile, September 2026 will see Figgis Family Vineyard harvest three grape varieties from neighbouring Vicarage Field for the first time, to make Pinot Noir red, Meunier rosé and Chardonnay white still wines.
