Kent Food Trails Launched

Kent, the Capital of English Wine launches the first Kent Food Trail; Vineyards and Wines

Produced in Kent – the organisation dedicated to Kent’s food and drink – is launching Kent Food Trails and the first trail, Vineyards and Wines, will be published on the new website www.kentfoodtrails.co.uk on the 1st of October.

The Kent wine scene has taken an exciting turn this week as Produced in Kent member Chapel Down announces plans to become the largest producer in England. A recent agreement to lease a further 388 acres of prime viticulture land adjoining the existing vineyards on the North Downs will, once planted, amount to 950 total supply acreage. It’s a real coup for Kentish Wine.

Kent isn’t known as the Capital of English Wine for nothing. The county offers a true wine-lovers experience, thanks to the growing number of cellar doors, tours, tastings and grape-infused dining experiences.

Produced in Kent Manager Stephanie Durling says, “there are already over 50 vineyards in Kent with more cropping up all the time. It’s such an exciting time with Kent’s wines picking up major awards at the international wine competitions. Right now, especially with the exciting news from Chapel Down, the enthusiasm and interest in English wine is riding higher than ever and Kent has the perfect blend of soils, climate and passion.

“This is the first in an exciting series of publications created to introduce our visitors to the range of fabulous food and drink. Our brand new website will guide you through what to do and where to stay so you can make the most of the Garden of England. We want to inspire visitors and locals alike with Kent’s amazing food and drink. From products produced and grown here for hundreds of years to 21st century innovations, food and drink has shaped the landscape of our wonderful county and we hope you enjoy exploring all it has to offer.

“We are working together with the team at Visit Kent to support their new wine venture initiative “Wine Garden of England”. It is a really exciting time for Kent wine.”

Wine Writer and expert Stephen Skelton MW comments, “Kent has the largest area of vineyards of any UK county, showing that it really is the ‘Garden of England’. With a very long history of growing top quality fruit of all types, Kent has the sites and soils to grow excellent quality grapes and produced world-class wines. Kent is home to Chapel Down, the largest producer of wines form UK-grown grapes, as well as Domaine Evremond, the new English Sparkling Wine producer established by Taittinger, the first Champagne producer to set foot in the UK. Both go to show that Kent is the place for successful viticulture and wine making.”
