MASTHOUSE SINGLE MALT WHISKY SELLS OUT IN 3 WEEKS

Masthouse Single Estate Single Malt Whisky at 45% ABV, distilled in a Pot Still, has sold out its inaugural batch of 2124 bottles within a month of its November launch. A second batch of the 2017 Vintage was released from its casks in December and will ship at the beginning of February 2021.

Masthouse Single Malt is Pot Distilled and is the first of Copper Rivet Distillery’s 3 core whisky expressions distilled in Chatham, Kent.

The Pot Distilled expression will be followed by two further Masthouse whiskies distilled in Copper Rivet’s unique 10 metre tall column still, from the 2016 crop, grown for Copper Rivet Distillery by the Burden family on the neighbouring Isle of Sheppey:

  • Masthouse Column Still ‘Malt’ – to be released in late Spring 2021.
  • Masthouse Column Still ‘Grain’ – to be released in Autumn 2021.

Autumn or winter 2021 will also see the launch of Masthouse Single Estate Single Malt Whisky of the 2018 Vintage from the 2017 harvest.

Co-founder Stephen Russell comments: “About 70% of the pot distilled Masthouse Single Malt Whisky was purchased direct from the distillery’s website. It is a massive demonstration of confidence in our un-sampled whisky. The feedback from those who have now tried their bottle and from our Facebook Live virtual tastings and Q&As is incredible – people seem to enjoy its fruity, floral accessibility, special character and layers of complexity.

“Distiller Abhi Banik has come through this, his first whisky, with flying colours. Made with specially grown Kentish malted barley, Belgravia, this first iteration of Masthouse is a natural, unfiltered Whisky, pot-distilled and matured in ex-bourbon and virgin American white oak barrels. At the beginning of this journey, after choosing the grain variety and the fields where it would be grown, my brother Matthew Russell flew to Kentucky to choose the barrels. He and distiller Abhi chose barrels which will gently complement the flavours of our wonderful raw ingredients.

Guy Hodcroft of Master of Malt, stockist of the Masthouse Single Estate Single Malt: “Masthouse Single Malt is very ripe and fresh, with a nice weight of pear and pineapple, supported with a lovely sweet cereal note. Juicy and malty on the palate, it has great viscosity and notes of fresh stone fruits and sweet spice. It’s proven so popular with our customers that we’ve sold out of our first allocation, but we will have more in stock from February”.
